BYU soccer mourns the lack of attacking lineman Sione Veikoso, who died in a building accident

BYU offensive lineman Sione Veikoso was killed in a building accident in Kailua, Hawaii, the staff introduced late Friday.

“Relaxation in love, Sione. God be with you till we meet once more,” the cougars wrote on Twitter.

Earlier than enrolling at BYU, Veikoso served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brazil from 2018-2020. He started his faculty profession at Arizona State.

He finally transferred to BYU and made a one-game look in the course of the 2022 faculty soccer season. Veikoso was a three-star highschool recruit.

“We’re deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life of one in every of our brothers, Sione Veikoso,” BYU head coach Kalani Sitake wrote on Twitter. “His loss of life is heartbreaking for all of us. We ship our deepest condolences and prayers to his household as we share of their grief. Our love for you is perpetually, Sione!”

In accordance with KITV Information in Honolulu, Veikoso was a part of a crew engaged on a 15-foot retaining wall when it partially collapsed. A number of individuals have been trapped after the collapse.

Firefighters responded to the scene and cleared the particles to achieve the trapped individuals, the report revealed. A minimum of two have been in critical situation.

“The BYU Soccer Household mourns the lack of our expensive teammate and fellow cougar Sione Veikoso,” BYU Athletic Director Tom Holmoe mentioned on Twitter. “Could his household and mates really feel our love and religion at this most sacred and tough time. Peace be with you now and perpetually, Sione.”
